Rules & Etiquette

Maintaining the tradition and integrity of the game.

Basic Rules of Play

Golf is played, for the most part, without the supervision of a referee or umpire. The game relies on the integrity of the individual to show consideration for other players and to abide by the Rules. All players should conduct themselves in a disciplined manner.

  • Play the ball as it lies, except when the rules allow you to move it.
  • Do not move, bend, or break anything growing or fixed to improve your lie or stance.
  • You may play a provisional ball if you think your ball might be lost or out of bounds.
  • A ball is out of bounds when all of it lies beyond the inside line of the out-of-bounds stakes.

Course Etiquette

Good etiquette ensures that every player has an enjoyable experience on the course. We kindly ask all guests to observe the following:

  • Pace of Play: Keep pace with the group in front of you. If you fall a full hole behind, please let the group behind you play through.
  • Course Care: Repair your ball marks on the greens, replace your divots or fill them with sand, and rake bunkers after use.
  • Silence: Remain quiet and still when another player is about to hit their shot.
  • Safety: Do not hit until the group ahead is well out of range. If your ball appears to be heading toward another player, yell "Fore!" immediately.

Scoring & Penalties

Common Penalty Situations

Out of Bounds / Lost Ball (1 Stroke + Distance): If a ball is lost or out of bounds, you must add a penalty stroke and play another ball from where the previous stroke was made.

Water Hazard (1 Stroke): You may play the ball as it lies without penalty. Alternatively, you may take a one-stroke penalty and drop a ball behind the hazard, keeping the point where the ball crossed the margin of the hazard between the hole and the spot on which the ball is dropped.

Unplayable Lie (1 Stroke): You may declare your ball unplayable anywhere on the course (except in a water hazard). Add one penalty stroke and drop within two club-lengths, drop back on a line, or replay from the previous spot.
